Young int’l musicians take part in Eurasian Music Games

ASTANA – Talented international youth will gather in the Kazakh capital Aug. 15-25, as the city is hosting the Eurasian Music Games for the first time as part of the EXPO 2017 cultural programme. The main organisers of the event are Kazakh National University of Arts and European Foundation for Support of Culture (Malta).

“I am sure that the Eurasian Music Games will be an outstanding event in the calendar of cultural events in Kazakhstan, one of its main attractions. For many of you, this week will become the time of your professional debut. I am pleased to welcome the future stars in Astana who will determine the face of the art for the next decade,” said Kazakh National University of Arts Rector, Professor and People’s Artist of Kazakhstan Aiman Mussakhajayeva.

According to the organising committee, the event intends to reveal and support gifted creative youth, educate and form moral values ​​among young people, strengthen countries’ common cultural space, preserve and develop the participants’ cultural potential and create conditions for creative self-realisation. Musical competitions include three disciplines – vocal, violin and piano within the 12-35 age range. Young musicians have arrived from at least 18 countries.

The jury consists of prominent performers: Mussakhajayeva, Soviet and Russian opera singer Lyubov Kazarnovskaya, USSR People’s Artist Konstantin Orbelian, Pablo Sarasate International Violin Competition winner Karen Shahgaldyan, Honoured Artist of Kazakhstan Shahimardan Abilov, pianists Yuri Didenko and Albert Mamriev, Talent Music Master Courses of Brescia (Italy) President and Artistic Director Paolo Baglieri, Honoured Worker of Kazakhstan Timur Urmancheyev, Italian violinist and conductor Pierclaudio Fei, State Symphony Orchestra in Bursa (Turkey) Director and Concertmaster Gokce Ozler, Ankara State Theatre of Opera and Ballet Director and soloist Metin Turan and international contest laureate Gennady Kabka (Ukraine). Eleven classical music concerts will be held during the competition involving musicians from Armenia, Germany, Hungary, South Korea, Norway, Russia and the host country.

The Astana State Academic Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra headed by Armenia State Youth Orchestra chief conductor Sergey Smbatyan will perform at the opening and closing ceremonies.

The audience will enjoy works of Alexey Shor, Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Sergei Rachmaninoff and Aram Khachaturian.
